Just Fill the bottle 3/4 full with vegetable oil.
Fill the all of the bottle with water (almost to the top but not overflowing).
Add about 10 drops of food coloring. Be sure to make the water fairly dark in color. Notice that the food coloring only colors the water and not the oil.
seperate the Alka-Seltzer tablet into only 8 pieces.
Drop one of the tiny pieces of Alka-Seltzer into the oil and water mixture. When the bubbling stops, add another chunk of Alka-Seltzer. It’s just like a lava lamp!
then when you have used up all of the Alka-Seltzer and when the bubbling has stopped, screw on the soda bottle cap. Tip the bottle back and forth then see the wave. The tiny drops of liquid join together to make one big lava-like blob.

Question:
How would you make disappearing ink?
Research:
->. this is the basic chemisty that happens with the ink.

->. these are the materials needed to do the experiment.

->. these are the directions to continue the experiment.
http://chemistry.about.com/od/demonstrationsexperiments/ss/disappearink_4.htm
Hypothesis:
When we mix the lye with the rubbing alcohol we will be able to make an ink that once exposed to air, be able to disappear.
However, by adding another chemicla to the substance, we hope to be able to retrieve the color form the ink and dreate a dissappearing-reappearing ink.
Experiment:
ingrediants::
0.10 g thymolphthalein for blue ink or phenolphthalein for red ink (1/3 of 1/8 tsp)
10 ml (2 tsp) ethyl alcohol (ethanol) [can substitute 14 ml or 3 tsp of ethyl rubbing alcohol]
90 ml water
20 drops of 3M sodium hydroxide solution or 10 drops 6M sodium hydroxide solution [make a 3 M sodium hydroxide solution by dissolving 12 g of sodium hydroxide NaOH (1 level tablespoon of lye) in 100 ml (1/2 cup) of water.
directions::
Dissolve the thymolphthalein (or phenolphthalein) in the rubbing alcohol.
Stir in 90 ml of water (will produce a milky solution).
Add lye solution dropwise until the solution turns a dark blue or red (might take slightly more or less than the number of drops stated in the ingriants section).
to clarify experiment::
Test the ink by applying it to fabric (cotton tee-shirt material or a table cloth works well). Paper allows less interaction with air, so the color change reaction takes more time.
In a few seconds, the 'stain' will disappear. The pH of the ink solution is 10-11, but after exposure to air will drop to 5-6. The damp spot will eventually dry. A white residue may be visible on dark fabrics. The residue will rinse out in the wash.
If you brush over the spot with a cotton ball that has been dampened in ammonia the color will return. Similarly, the color will vanish more quickly if you apply a cotton ball dampened with vinegar or if you blow on the spot to improve air circulation.
->.hopefully the ink is able to disappear and reappear with the mixture that we were able to conduct.

RIPPED OF AT THE DRUG STORE
It sucks being blind I got ripped of a t a drug store buying a bag of Doritos. When I went to pay for it the cashier like took an extra twenty bucks for my three dollar bag of Doritos. Man I was so pissed when I got home when my friend told me I only have ten bucks out of my thirty two that I had before. We need so blind cash for us blind people.

And you could be blind for like 9 months and still be confused and when you go to the store by your self and it was three dollars you wouldnt be able to tell how much you are really giving so i think we should have brallie money . :)

braille for the blind
people should really try to make a difference between items for the blind and items for people with sight, because blind people like me dont see what others see and it is not fair that they have things that we dont, like money for example. when other people pay for somthing they know how much it costs and what they are giving the person. But emagine how it is for us what if somthing costs 3 dollars and 5 cents and on acedent i give the cashere a 20 dollar bill. i mean in a sense it would be really easy for for a blind person to get ripped off with any perchase that may be made. so we should make braille money for the blind. so that accedents like that one dont happen.

Braille Money script Desiree

Don't you think that it is not very fair to blind people like me can't see their money. People should make braille money for the blind. Just think one day a man at a cash register could ask a blind person for 3 dollars and the blind person could give them 3 20 dollar bills. so because of that we should make money for the blind. We should atleast put a braille sign for the number in the corner. Because it is not fair that blind people get their money stolen.

barbara:] money for the blind

and there should be braille writing on the money.

or some sort of way to be able to put brallie on money, so that the money company doesnt haev to change all there money making machines and stuff.

and there should be created some sort of device that scans the money to be able ot read the value. so the blind are sure of what exactly amount they have. this should be like a hand held scanner and not that big.

Ten Questions

Friday, October 31, 2008
julio 41
The solar system is simply a long ring sideways that has planets lined up among it. The planets are made out of a star. A star is a twinkling thing that is very far away from earth. Stars are born and they also die; when they die it is called a Supernova. A Supernova is like a huge explosion. A Supernova is way brighter than the sun; it in fact could outshine an entire galaxy. Now there is a small chance that a Supernova can create a planet or just another star. It can also create a Black hole. Black holes are when gravity has become so; so; so extreme that not even light can escape it. It's shaped like a tornado but bigger and it is in space.

Relative Size Project
Monday, October 20, 2008
be envirementally good to the animals
1) Air Pollution can cause respiratory problems in animals other than humans. Smaller animals, as are small children, are more susceptible to distress from higher levels of sulfur dioxide and ozone in the air. The greenhouse effect and global warming may be changing our climate faster than animal populations can adapt. Air conditioners and aerosol sprays that contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) are contributing to a hole in the protective ozone layer. Do you think skin cancer can only occur in humans? Acid rain has caused fish kills in Canada, Scandinavia and the Adirondacks. Salmon are no longer found in many Nova Scotia rivers.
2) Water Pollution is particularly harmful to marine ecosystems. As previously mentioned, sewage and other waste consume dissolved oxygen, decreasing the concentration available to fish. When we treat our sewage with chlorine to kill bacteria, we also kill marine ecosystems with the chlorine itself, or with carcinogenic chlorinated hydrocarbon byproducts. Mercury bioaccumulates in the food chains and for this reason it can be dangerous to eat large quantities of big ocean fish such as tuna and swordfish. In humans, mercury causes neurological symptoms (felt hat manufacturers developed the "Mad Hatter" disorder) and birth defects. Toxic substances are released by industries and also by accidents. Who can forget the images of the 1989 oil spill by the Exxon Valdez?
More than 1000 miles of Alaskan shoreline were contaminated with 11 million gallons of oil coating tens of thousands of sea birds and killing at least 1000 sea otters. Since oil is nonpolar and insoluble in water, it is very difficult to clean. The area has been analyzed ten years after the event at A National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Website.
3) Soil Pollution includes the abuse of pesticides like DDT. This nearly caused the extinction of several large birds like the brown pelican, but they have made a dramatic recovery since DDT use in the US was banned nearly thirty years ago. Did you know, however, that DDT is still produced in this country for export to other developing nations whose needs outweigh the problems caused? This toxic substance and others from solid waste are taken up by the plants and animals we ingest. Some people believe in only purchasing food from organic stores which is more expensive since the crop is smaller by not using pesticides. An argument that poorer people have higher cancer rates since they cannot afford to shop organic can be made. Does you family purchase organic food?
4) Aquatic Ecosystems are in peril due water pollutants such as acid rain and mercury contamination. Another problem for local fish is polychlorinated byphenyls (PCB's) from elecrical transformers. This impairs reproduction in aquatic species and has been detected in the flesh of striped bass. Have you heard about the recent lobster die-off on Long Island? It may be linked to the runoff of the pesticide malathion used to eradicate the West Nile virus-carrying mosquitos since crustaceans are closely related to insects. Other toxic chemicals like lead and cadmium cause brain and liver damage respectively and accumulate in the body over a lifetime of exposure. Finally, seemingly harmless thermal pollution both lowers dissolved oxygen and increases respiration rates, killing fish in a positive feedback cycle (ever increasingly). A summary of pollution effects on aquatic populations is available at A Marine Pollution Website.
5) Land Ecosystems are also affected by pollution. Bird populations have been changed by pesticides and oil spills. Bears that rely on fish diets can become contaminated. Mysterious mutations in frogs have been detected in the US. Habitat destruction is the primary reason for extinctions of animal populations. To learn more about what species are endangered, click on The US Fish and Wildlife Service Homepage.
What can be done to save animal populations?
There are many environmental organizations that deserve your support: The National Audubon Society, The Sierra Club, The World Wildlife Fund, and the Natural Resources Defense Council, to name a few. One organization that has preserved local sites for wildlife and takes an active role in saving the endangered piping plover on Long Island is The Nature Conservancy. You can volunteer your services and/or become a contributing member. Think about it.
Conclusions: 1. What is bioaccumulation? 2. How could the extinction of a species in South America affect a human living in New York City? 3. Why don't we use mercury thermometers in chemistry lab anymore?
peta kills animals its so sad
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a group that complains bitterly when animals die accidentally in horse races or intentionally in slaughterhouses, killed more than 90 percent of the adoptable animals in its care during 2007.
Last year, PETA wrangled with the Virginia government for nine months before its 2006 records were finally made public. In a cynical bid to hide the outrageous percentage of animals that wind up in their giant walk-in freezer, PETA's leaders tried to lump the pets they spayed or neutered in with those they took in for more than an hour. That squabbling continues, but this year we decided not to wait for the dust to settle.
Instead, with the help of Virginia's public records law, we did a little digging. Responding to our formal legal request, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) has released PETA's 2007 "Animal Record" report. Although VDACS itself has still not relased this report, we're making it available to the general public.
PETA claims to be dedicated to protecting animals and treating them "ethically"—it’s right there in the group’s name. But killing animals that could otherwise be placed in adoptive homes isn’t terribly ethical, especially for a group whose $30 million annual income is more than enough to do the right thing instead.
In comparison, the Virginia Beach SPCA, right down the road from PETA’s Norfolk headquarters, managed to adopt out almost 70% of the animals in its care last year. And it did it on a relative shoestring budget.
Adding PETA's 2007 numbers to the mix, we can now document that the group has put down over 19,200 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. While it's possible that some of these animals were too broken or sick to be rehabilitated, humane societies in Virginia managed to save an average of nearly 65 percent of their animals in 2007. PETA found adoptive homes for less than 1 percent.
